THE COMPOSER
Eleuther Lovreglio 1900 - 1972
Eleuther LOVREGLIO

For meeting Eleuther LOVREGLIO

Born in Naples, on the famous mediterranean sea-board, he was a child procociously talented.
All his boy-hood was devoted to the study of music. The piano, the violin were his favourite instruments. When he was only nine he composed a charming successful pastorale "L'Appel du matin".
At only sixteen he obtained the most important diploma as a Composer and interpreter from the Conservatoire of Naples.
At seventeen he passed an entrance examination at the Scala of Milano to play as first violin in the orchestra directed by Maestro Arturo TOSCANINI, a truly strict conductir who praised him.
After Milano he has been attracted by Paris, the Paris of Ravel, Debussy... His compositions were applauded at concerts Colonne, Pasdeloup, Lamoureux. Broadcast by RAI, Radio-Vaticano, Radio-France and so on...
But Milano, Paris are cold foggy cities. He choosed to join his family so'ear to his which was living in Nice.
But, not long after he had a sudden idea : to board on an cargo with his wife, Angela, for a mystic stay in China. Vagary of artist ? No elevation desire.
Their stay in China, has been protracted, strange ; adventurer, esoteric. His young wife and himself had been trusting with ingenuousness
in one of the main adventurer of the presset time.
They were dramatically estranged. The wife was held captive in a monastery and the husband wandered miserably in a derelict Shangai (1933-1934) thinking of a wild kidnapping by chinese bandits to free his young captive wife. He managed to overcome all the difficulties in spite of utter destitution (as the adventurer had laid hands on their fortune), freed Angèle and held in check the head of the sect whose members scattered away and then he came back to Europe.
What musician could boast such a checkered life ?
Afeter the liberation, the reunited couple settled down again in Europe.
He will later indulge in intense activity and compose numerous operas, ballets, symphonies, chamber music and works for soloists.
A wide ranging production whose main works are mentioned below and never ceased to develop until his death in 1972.
It is now the noble duty of his heirs, his younger brother Janvier, his nephews and nieces, to publicize this artist of merit.
